Summer Study: Woche 1

It's been a week since I've been in Germany, and a lot has happened.

Monday June 29, Day 1: On the airplane, I decided on having a movie marathon, rather than sleeping. This was the wrong choice because we landed at 6 AM and I HAD TO GO TO SCHOOL ON LITERALLY 27 HOURS OF SLEEP DEPRIVATION. When we got home from school, I organized my clothes (which if I hadn't done as soon as I got there, there would have been no hope for it ever happening), I slept for a good 3-4 hours, woke up for dinner, and then went back to sleep.

Tuesday June 30, Day 2: Somewhat functioning, but my body and mind were still stuck in New Jersey, but I still managed to at least talk to the majority of the Americans who are also in the program with me. They are all great people. After school, I went to my host sister's dance class, but I was too disoriented to participate or take a picture.

Wednesday July 1, Day 3:  Today, instead of spending the school day in school, our group got a small tour of the town, Bad Iburg, and a tour of it's castle, Iburg Castle. It wasn't very castle-like, but it was still pretty freaking cool. The castle also had a garden, which overlooked the town. After the castle, we went to the Rathaus (Town Hall) where we got to meet the mayor's representative (she was doing something else I guess) and sign the official guestbook. (Also pretty freaking cool) That was about 20-30 minutes and then we crossed the street to the Uhrenmuseum (Clock museum) which obviously had a ton of cool clocks and stuff like that. We got to do a scavenger hunt while we were there, and everyone who got the correct sum from the different numbers were entered into a lottery for the prize and it just so happens that I won the prize. The prize, was a candle that marks how long it has burned by the lines on it. After "school" I went to see my host's horse, we rode bikes to the stables, (bikes I needed a step to get on) and on the way back I did the most Karin thing possible, by falling off said bike right into the flower bed, but you know, I was okay.

super cute cuckoo clock
Thursday July 2, Day 4: Not much happened, but I did almost buy a pen with my name correctly spelled on it. Oh and we had a barbecue.

Friday July 3, Day 5: Again instead of having only classes, my group was able to go into town and just walk around and stuff, which was really cool. I bought some postcards to go on my postcard wall, and a birthday card for my brother, who's birthday was on the third. By the end of our "school trip" half of us were sitting in a cafe just talking and actually getting to know each other (which is hard to do when you're in class). After school, my host sister and I went into town and to the park and stuff and then around  dinner time my host family and I went swimming and then went out for dinner.

how picturesque

Not sure what's happening today (saturday) but you'll know by next Sunday!

Talk to you later,

-Karin xx
