Quito, Ecuador

I spent this past week traveling through Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. We started in Quito, Ecuador's capital city. We got a chance to see Quito's old city, which is rich in ancient history and colonial architecture.

We went up to the Panecillo, which gave a panoramic view of Old City Quito.

Quito is located in a valley in the Andes and is about 9000 ft above sea level

the pigeons decided that they all needed to fly right as I was taking my photo

the alter of this church is made of solid gold

This is the Plaza de la Independencia, taken on the porch of the President's Palace

We got to take pictures in front of the entrance of the President's Palace with the guards that are always at attention

Fun Fact: Ecuador's Independence day is August 10th

Then we got in our bus and took a 40 minute trip to the equator, specifically the exact middle of the earth, which was actually super cool because weird things happen on the exact line of the equator like you can balance an egg on a nail (did it in under 30 seconds), you can't walk heel to toe with your eyes closed because you'd fall over, and water doesn't circle down a drain, it just goes straight down.
(I know these are all very exciting facts to every other 19 year old in the world too)

The gift shop was also pretty nice to look at, even though it was overpriced

Next times edition will be on the Galapagos Islands, where I spent most of my time while in Ecuador.

Talk to you later,

-Karin xx
